Studying abroad is a life changing and eye-opening experience for college students. Universities offer a variety of amazing programs for students to apply for and visit other countries. There is no better time to do this and here are some reasons why you should!
#1. Learning about another culture
Visiting another country and living there for some time can introduce you to another culture. It is easy to just live in your own bubble and ignore what else is out there in the world. It is so incredible to see how others live. Being exposed to this can be life changing.
#2. Learning another language
Lots of students will specifically go somewhere to help enhance their learning of the language. For example, Spanish students may go abroad to a Spanish speaking country. There are multiple options when going abroad, you can live with a host family or live on a college campus. This is so beneficial when learning a new language. Having the opportunity to fully immerse yourself in the culture will help your speaking skills. Traveling to a country that speaks the language you are learning is a smart idea.
#3. Recieving college credit
Going abroad through a university may get you credit hours. How awesome is that? Some programs have you actually take courses while abroad but some do not require that. Simply going on a vacation somewhere and recieving credit is a great opportunity!
#4. Incredible experience
Some things just cannot be taught in a classroom. Actually experiencing things first hand can better you academically and overall as a person. Studying abroad will give you the chance to see things and learn a lot. You will make so many memories and have a once in a lifetime experience.
It may sound cheezy but it can change your life. Doing something out of your comfort zone and out of the ordinary can be so good. Especially going in college when you do not have as many responsibilities. It may get harder to go abroad as you get older and have more things to cater to. Think about taking advantage of this!
