Perks of Going Greek

1.) Friends for life

A main reason people join a sorority or fraternity is to make friends. Starting at brand new school is nerve wracking, especially when you move away from home. Rushing is a fantastic experience. Rushing is where you are able to meet with the chapter and get to know them. Sororities go through a process where you visit each chapter while fraternities give you the option of visiting the chapters you specifically are interested in. In this process, you can make friends just by randomly meeting other students doing the same thing. But joining one can be a great experience for many. Choosing a chapter that consists of people that have similar interests and values is rewarding. People make amazing friends through this and have an entire chapter that feels like a family.

2.) Gets you involved

Sororities and fraternities are extremely involved in their communities. Chapters all have a specific philanthropy that they raise money for. Also they are involved on college campuses. Most require members to be involved in a club at the college. This makes your resume look great. It is also a good idea to get as involved at your school as you can.

3.) Help with academics

Greek life can be very beneficial towards your degree. Older members in your chapter who have your same major can be tutors and mentors. Having a study group with people can be so helpful in college. You can even get recommendations for classes or teachers to have. Everyone always has a hard class and you could have easy access to help.

4.) Job connections

This is something I think people don’t really think about. Chapters often have strong relationships with their alumni. Alumni can offer connections. Someone in your chapter could have a job in the career you are interested in. Being able to contact these alumni and possibly get a job, internship, or just advice is awesome.
